This question can strike fear, anxiety, worry, feelings of unworthiness, and failure into the hearts of many, or, alternatively, it instills hope, strength, positivity and motivation. Losing weight is a difficult journey for some, while others manage to seamlessly drop those pounds and inches with (what seems like) little effort. So how does this question make YOU feel?

Losing weight does not have to be difficult or expensive. You don't have to buy supplements and pay enormous fees to gyms and online apps. What you need is a plan, and it needs to be attainable.

Coming up with your "Why" is probably the best place to start and based on your answer, will set you up for success or failure. Everyone has their own reasons for wanting to shed pounds, but sometimes those reasons are unreachable, and/or unhealthy; additionally, the path chosen to lose those pounds can be downright dangerous. In my opinion, focusing on your body as a whole is the secret to weight loss. If the body is healthy and functioning at its highest level, weight loss is simply one of several amazing side effects.

Once you have discovered your "Why," you need to think about your "Fuel" aka Food. We all know how important it is to select the right foods for our bodies, but we find ourselves being overwhelmed these days with information AND, more often than not, a lot of misinformation. So, how do we know what to eat and what not to eat? This is the question of the century and one that is and will probably remain debated for centuries to come; however, let me give you a little something to consider.

When you eat a meal, do you know where the nutrients are distributed, stored and utilized in your body? Do you know which foods help your organs function at their best and which foods cause your organs distress? Do you understand how certain foods heal your body, and prevent disease and illness, while others can actually cause disease and illness? These questions are important as they can change the future of your health by simply adding and/or removing food(s) from your daily meals.

I find it fascinating that many never question taking pills for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, allergies, acne, you name it, but if they are told they can reverse/reduce and/or eliminate their illness by eating certain foods or not eating certain foods, they will choose the pills.

Many complain of expanding waistlines, sore joints and bones, multiple health problems, hospital visits, and lack of energy, yet they refuse to look at the whole body and ways in which to heal themselves through food. They prefer to cover their ailments with pharmaceutical band aids and continue to consume what they have always eaten - because it hasn't killed them ...yet.

Because you are reading this blog from my web site, you know what foods I choose for weight loss and optimal health but let me reiterate. Eating more plant based (fruits, vegetables, legumes, and grains), and removing and/or limiting your intake of animal products (meat, fish, poultry, milk, dairy and eggs), and reducing your consumption of processed foods. I encourage you to eat plant based 98% of the time and 2% your choice, which means if you want to have fish or a hamburger every once in a while, go for it; if you don't, all the better.

The final piece to weight loss is EXERCISE. You MUST engage in some form of physical activity daily, and therefore, may I suggest walking. Walking is movement. It can be done with friends, alone, with your dog, in the grass, on a beach, on a treadmill, etc. 10-20 minutes a day and increase your time and intensity as you continue throughout the weeks. Weights, Pilates, Yoga, Dancing, Swimming, Tennis, whatever, find your fun! Look at exercise as a chance to be a kid again. Enjoy what you are doing and know that your body is singing HALLELUJAH! every time you move!

Take the time to Find your "Why". Decide how you are going to "Fuel" your body and make time daily for play time aka Exercise! With these three steps weight loss, energy, optimal health and wellness are all within your reach.
